Summative testing

The Primary ESL Standard Course Model summarises key summative testing events for learners. Consult the Syllabus document for revision and testing dates.

Summative testing tools are prepared by the Academic Program Department and campus Heads of Departments and released prior to test dates. Testing tools are moderated prior to and following learner testing. Revision packs to support teachers and learners with effective review are also provided for use in all campuses.

Testing typically occurs in class with class teacher invigilation. In cases where online teaching and learning is occurring during testing time, test content is made available via the Vinschool LMS and guidance provided on online invigilation.

Formative assessment

Key tools for formative assessment used for all Stages are:

  • Teacher observations - records maintained in Class Profile notes
  • Unit Quizzes - informal in-class tests focused on key Unit language and skills development. Unit Quiz test content is provided for each Stage in Global English
  • Unit Project outcomes - speaking and writing products produced at the end of each Unit of study and assessed via rubrics mapped to curriculum standards.

Teacher responsibilities include regular communication to parents about individual learner progress. Use your Class Profile record and formative assessment tracking tools provided to you by your campus Primary ESL Standard Head of Department to track learner progress and ensure all parent communications related to progress are evidence-based.

Your campus Primary ESL Standard Head of Department will provide you with guidance on parent communication channels and timelines for reporting on learner progress.
