At this stage, teachers need to revise their list of lesson objectives and make sure they are attainable within the allocated time. For example, if a 45-minute lesson plan includes 10 learning objectives, it is totally unrealistic.

Here are some strategies for creating a realistic timeline:

  • Estimate how much time each of the activities will take
  • Anticipate some problems that may occur and estimate extra time for them
  • Plan a few minutes at the end of class to answer any remaining questions and to sum up key points
  • Plan an extra activity or discussion question in case you have time left

It should be noted that no matter how you plan the timing for your lesson, the key to success is being flexible – be ready to adjust your lesson plan to students’ needs and focus on what seems to be more productive rather than sticking to your original plan.
